Volleyballers show promise, despite 11th straight loss

It was a promising start for a team desperately seeking their first win of the season.

It was a promising start for a team desperately seeking their first win of the season.

But in the end the Brock Badgers, despite dropping the first game, rebounded to win three straight, handing the Lakehead Thunderwolves women's volleyball team its 11th loss in 11 tries.

The Wolves, on the strength of some great play by Jorie Daymomd, who finished with 19 points on 15 kills and four aces, opened the best-of-five set with a 25-21 win and took the Badgers beyond the limit in a 27-25 loss in the second.

Brock took the third set 25-21 and the fourth by a 25-17 count.

Michelle Cournoyer had a strong outing for Lakehead, putting up seven kills, six digs and three blocks, while libero Breanne Hilhosrts had 27 digs.

LU coach Chris Green remained upbeat, despite the loss.

"Tonight many good things happened. Take the result away, which is vital, but take it away and watch the confidence in how our ladies played.

Many of the things we wanted to do we did. As the match wore on, so did the mental part of us staying focused. With young players, this will happen. I am proud of how we played, We may be 0-11, but we are growing. For a young group, that is so important," Green said.

The women are at home again next weekend to host Queen's for a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
