THUNDER BAY -- It took a little while but the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team picked up where they left off after beating a nationally ranked opponent.
Just one night after winning an offensive shootout against the No. 8 Queen’s Golden Gaels, Lakehead’s defence laid the groundwork for a 62-46 win over the York Lions at the Thunderdome on Saturday.
Lakehead was led by Jylisa Williams, who finished the contest with 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The two teams went to the locker rooms at halftime tied 24-24 but it was the home team who came out firing in the second half.
The Thunderwolves outscored York 38-22 over the final 20 minutes to pull ahead.
Lakehead outrebounded York by a 42-30 margin with Essa Jacobsen scoring 12 points and collecting nine boards.
