Ryan Johnson's tenure with the Detroit Red Wings was a shortlived one. The NHL team on Monday released the veteran forward, just days before the NHL season was set to begin.

Ryan Johnson's tenure with the Detroit Red Wings was a shortlived one.

The NHL team on Monday released the veteran forward, just days before the NHL season was set to begin. Johnson has played in 701 career games, most recently spending the second half of the 2010-11 season with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Johnson was at the Wings camp on a professional tryout.
