Winless streak hits seven for LU volleyball squad

Home court did little to cure the winless blues for Lakehead's women's volleyball team.

Home court did little to cure the winless blues for Lakehead's women's volleyball team.

The Wolves, making their home-court debut Friday night at the Thunderdome, were swept aside by the visiting York Lions, falling in straight sets 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17.

Lakehead's top scorer was Brittany MacLeod with seven points on five kills and two blocks. Setter Sarah Hudson had 18 assists.
With the loss the Wolves, who were minus starter Jenna Gunter, fell to 0-7 in OUA play.

"It's tough when you lose a starter as valuable as Jenna Gunter two or three days before this weekend. It messes with the passers' chemistry," said Lakehead coach Chris Green.

"Having said that, everyone passes every day together and the lack of focus we showed hurt us tonight.  We have been working hard on forcing middles in order to keep York honest, yet when we shy away from that, we become predictable and you saw that tonight, where York’s experience and quality athletes had an easy time reading our sets."

The two teams play again on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
