Wolves basketball lands four recruits

Fresh off their first trip to the CIS championship final in more than three decades, the retooling Lakehead Thunderwolves have begun the rebuilding process.

Fresh off their first trip to the CIS championship final in more than three decades, the retooling Lakehead Thunderwolves have begun the rebuilding process.

With six graduates decimating the core of a team that took four straight treks to nationals, LU men's basketball coach Scott Morrison on Friday started filling those gaps.

Guards Nolan MacKenzie (Oakville), Josh Bell (Mississauga) and Mitchell Hearn (Mount Carmel, N.L.) will be joined by 6-foot-5 forward Igor Lebov of Toronto in next season’s rookie class.

“I can’t say enough about our recruiting class to this point,” Morrison said in a release issued on Friday.

“Following a plan for several seasons now, we have sought out players who have a high ceiling, strong work ethic and outstanding character. All of these young men are sound academically and even stronger as people, and we are proud to welcome them to our basketball family here in Thunder Bay.”
