Wolves fall short against Concordia

MONTREAL – The Lakehead Thunderwolves mounted a furious third-period charge on Friday night, but couldn’t complete their comeback bid.

Dillon Donelly and Kelin Ainsworth scored 71 seconds apart in the final stanza on the road against the Concordia Stingers, but fell a goal short an dropped a 4-3 decision to fall to 3-3-0 on the season.

The Stingers, the No. 9 team in the nation, scored three times in the opening period to set the tone, the goals going to Anthony De Luca, Philippe Hudon and Scott Oke.

Evan Mignault potted his first career OUA goal to get the Wolves on the board 3:43 into the second, but DeLuca would add his second of the night to restore the three-goal Concordia lead.

Devin Green made 33 saves in picking up the loss, Philippe Cadorette 24 in earning the victory.

The two teams play again on Saturday night.
