The Lakehead Thunderwolves have avoided the British Columbia curse at nationals.

They’ll have to beat the beasts of the east, however, to keep their national title hopes alive.

The Wolves drew the seventh seed in their fourth trip to the CIS Final 8 men’s basketball championship, earning them a date with the No. 2 Cape Breton Capers.

In the past three years LU went one-and-out at nationals, falling to UBC, Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.

The Capers downed Acadia on Sunday to capture the AUS crown, while Lakehead beat Windsor on Saturday to take the OUA bronze-medal game.

"I will be calling my people tonight. Obviously trying to contain (guard James) Dorsey will be a major task," Morrison said, reached via text as the Thunderwolves landed Sunday at Thunder Bay International Airport.

Dorsey scored 30 points Sunday in leading Cape Breton to the AUS title win over the Axemen. He was the second-leading scorer in the AUS with a 20.8 average.

OUA champion Carleton took the No. 1 seed and will take on No. 8 Victoria. Ottawa, the OUA runner-up, grabbed the No. 3 ranking and will play Quebec champion McGill. UBC will battle with Acadia, awarded the wild-card, in the other quarterfinal.

The championship is scheduled to begin Friday at Ottawa's Scotiabank Place.
