The Lakehead Thunderwolves are turning back the clock to fill out their coaching staff.

On Tuesday the OUA hockey club announced coach Bill McDonald’s first hiring, former assistant Malcolm Sutherland.

Sutherland, who served under former coach Pete Belliveau in the team’s inaugural 2001-02 season, was a regional scout with Hockey Canada from 2002 to 2011. He was also an assistant with the Thunder Bay Thunder Cats of the United Hockey League from 1997 to 199 and coached the Northern Hawks junior team from 2002 to 2004.

“Malcolm has a real passion for the game, and I think he will relate well to the players,” McDonald said in a release issued by the team.  “His experience and certifications with Hockey Canada, combined with his coaching background at various levels will be an asset to both our team and our hockey camps.”

McDonald said he will consider adding another assistant to his staff later this summer.
