Wolves hockey team adds 'impact' forward

An already strong Lakehead Thunderwolves lineup should get even stronger after Christmas.

An already strong Lakehead Thunderwolves lineup should get even stronger after Christmas.

The Wolves hockey squad on Wednesday announced they’ll be six-foot-four, 205-pound Thomas Frazee, a fromer 30-goal scorer in the Western Hockey League, to their post-holiday lineup.

The 21-year-old North Vancouver native spent the early stages of the 2011-12 season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL, after attending the training camp of the Washington Capitals.

Frazee, listed as a centre, spent parts of five seasons in the WHL, landing in Portland, Medicine Hat, Moose Jaw, where he was a teammate of LU back-up goalie Jeff Bosch.

Most recently he spent time with Regina and Kamloops, where he netted 32 goals and 72 points split between the two teams in 2010-11.

The former 11th overall pick in the WHL draft had a goal and three assists before leaving the Condors.

Naturally Lakehead coach Joel Scherban is pleased with his acquisition.

“We’re very happy with how the first half of our season has gone, and we’re excited to have Thomas join our already strong existing lineup,” Scherban said in a release issued by the team.  “Thomas will add a unique blend of size, skill and experience to our roster for the second half of the season.”

Frazee is equally excited to be arriving in Thunder Bay.

“I have two good friends from my WHL days on the team in Jeff Bosch and Jason Grecica, and after speaking with coach Scherban, I’m convinced that Lakehead is the best fit for me. I'm looking forward to coming to Thunder Bay and helping the team in any way I can,” he said.

The first-place Wolves (13-3-0) take on Calgary Friday and Saturday night at Fort William Gardens in non-conference play.
