WINDSOR, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves struggled all season with top 10 teams.

They gave the Windsor Lancers a run for their money for three quarters on Saturday night, but ran out of steam in the fourth and were ousted from the OUA women’s basketball playoffs, falling 66-54 in their second-round playoff match.

Leashja Grant led the Wolves with 18 points and 14 rebounds, but the Thunderwolves were not sharp from long distance, hitting just five of 20 three-point attempts.

Lakehead (17-9) took a one-point lead into the second quarter and led 22-20 when Carly Steer drained a three, the start of a 15-0 run that culminated with an Olivia Osamusali trey.

Windsor led 39-31 at the half, but Lakehead outscored their opponent 12-8 in the third to cut the Lancers lead in half.

A Bridget O’Reilly three early in the fourth made it a one-possession contest, but the Lancers found their range and pulled away for the 12 point win.

Osamusali led the Lancers with 17 points.

Nikki Ylagan had 11 for Lakehead, who were seeking their first trip to the OUA final four since
