WINDSOR, Ont. – The seven-game slide is over.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night rode two-goal performances from Billy Jenkins and Sam Schutt to a 4-1 road win over the Windsor Lancers, providing a little breathing room in the race for the OUA men’s hockey playoffs.

Jenkins opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the game and added his second of the night midway through the second to give the Wolves a 3-0 lead at the time.

Schutt, who has six goals in eight games, scored early in the second and into the empty net with 2:09 to go in regulation.

Blake Blondeel had the lone goal for the host Lancers, slipping the puck past Devin Green at the 14:29 mark of the middle stanza. Green made 29 saves to pick up the all-important win for the Wolves, who improved to 11-10-4.

The victory gave the seventh-place Wolves a five-point cushion in the OUA West standings, Toronto, Waterloo and Windsor (7-11-7) tied for eighth with 21 points apiece. The top eight teams make the post-season.

All three teams have three games left to play, meaning LU can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Western on Saturday night, the finale of their current three-game road trip.

The close the regular season next weekend at home against Waterloo and Laurier.
