THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves started 2018 on a winning note.

The OUA men’s hockey team on Friday night scored three unanswered goals, two in the second and one in the third, and downed the visiting Windsor Lancers 3-1 to improve to 7-8-1 on the season.

Trevor Hynnes, Grant Valiquette and Brennen Dubchak tallied for the Wolves, who dropped their final two games before the Christmas break.

Chris Scott, who scored on a power play 3:05 into the Fort William Gardens contest, had the lone goal for the sixth-place Lancers, who hold a slim one-point edge on Lakehead in the OUA West standings.

Nic Renyard made 23 saves in picking up the win, while Blake Richard stopped 23 of 26 shots directed his way between the pipes for Guelph.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday night.
