The Lakehead Thunderwolves closed their 2009-10 regular season on an emphatic high note, beating the Western Mustangs 89-65, Saturday night at the C. J. Sanders Fieldhouse in Thunder Bay.

The win gives No. 6 LU (17-5) a series split with UWO as the Pack finishes with their best season in OUA competition and their first winning record in conference play since going 7-6 in 1993-94.

Coach Scott Morrison and his team will advance to their first OUA home playoff game as No. 2 seed, having lost the points-based tiebreaker with No. 8 Windsor.

Senior guard Jamie Searle had a killer game with 28 points on 11-18 shooting with five 3-pointers. Freshman post Ryan Thomson added 17 points while Matt Nagy and Cam Hornby each added 12.

Garrett Olexiuk had 16 points for the ‘Stangs while Ryan Barbeau added 15.

The Thunderwolves will have a first round playoff bye and will kick off their playoff bid next Saturday, 7 p.m. at the C. J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
