Wolves women bring back Corina Bruni

A familiar face is returning to the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team.

A familiar face is returning to the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team.

Corina Bruni, the squad’s rookie of the year in 2010, is back for a final season of university ball, after a pair of seasons with Algoma University from 2011 to 2013, before the school made the jump to Ontario University Athletics.

Bruni sat out last season.

“I'm excited that my graduate studies have brought me back to Lakehead University," said Bruni in a release.

"I couldn't be happier to have the opportunity to compete in the OUA with the hardworking staff, successful athletes, and supportive community that make up the Lakehead University women's basketball program.”

Coach Jon Kreiner looking to replace the versatile Ayse Kalkan and the sharp-shooting Kelsey Bardsley, said Bruni brings a high skill set to the Thunderwolves.

“In her rookie season she averaged 3.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game and has developed her game considerably in her time away. Her greatest contribution to our program is having played in five playoff games as a Thunderwolf. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach Corina in her final year; she's grown so much as both a player and a person,” Kreiner said.
