Wolves women lose again

The Winnipeg Wesmen women on Friday continued their preseason domination of the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The Winnipeg Wesmen women on Friday continued their preseason domination of the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

The Wesmsen beat the Wolves 70-59 on the opening day of the University of Manitoba Women’s Basketball Invitational, their fourth win in four tries against the Thunderwolves this fall.

Winnipeg, who led 35-23 at halftime, got 16 points from Alyssa Grant in just 23 minutes of court time and 13 points and a dozen rebounds from guard Stephanie Kleysen.

Lakehead’s Carolyn Fragale led all scorers with 21 points, while teammate Lindsay Druery potted 17 points and grabbed 13 boards.

"After a strong start and a good defensive first quarter, we struggled to hang on to the ball,” said LU coach Jon Kreiner.
“We were doing a great job attacking but make poor decisions passing and we did a poor job getting the ball inside in the first half. Carolyn did a great job defensively tonight (6 steals) and keep us in the game."

The Wolves will take on Trinity-Western on Saturday, with proceeds from the game going toward breast cancer research.
