Anything Tasia McKenna can do, apparently Lindsay Druery can do better.
McKenna
scored 29 points on Wednesday night and Druery dropped 30 and grabbed
15 rebounds, leading the Lakehead Thunderwolves to a stunning
come-from-behind 85-80 win over the Brock Badgers in the opening round
of the OUA women’s basketball playoffs.
The Wolves, who trailed
45-30 at the half, erupted for 26 points in the third quarter and 29 in
the fourth to erase the 15-point deficit.
LU coach Jon Kreiner said it took some time for the Wolves to get going, but good things happened once they did.
"We
had a slow first quarter and a terrible second, but we executed our
defensive plan very well in the second half. Our two big players stepped
up huge for us tonight and first years Darcy Zinck and Sierra Guy
didn't turn the ball over and played really tough. It was a great win
for our program but we have a big game ahead of us in our 'new season'.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Wolves, who take on a tough opponent on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals.
“Windsor
at Windsor is a tough match-up but we need to recover and get ready to
play," Kreiner said in a release issued by the team.
