The LU men, coming off a shared championship in 2010, finished fourth competing in front of friends and family at the Thunderdome.

But the bigger news was the dethroning of the perennial champion Brock Badgers, who had won 15 straight OUA titles, including a tie for top spot last year. The Badgers finished third behind Guelph, who won with 65 points, and Western, who finished two points back. Brock put up 60 points, two more than the host Thunderwolves.

Brock had an easier time of it on the women’s side, capturing 60 points to edge out Western by three. Lakehead wound up third, with 46 points.

Individually both the men’s and women’s teams had plenty to cheer about.

Gaston Tardif took top spot in the men’s 57-kilogram competition, earning a spot at the CIS championships, scheduled for Thunder Bay on Feb. 26 and 27. Jason Bresele topped the 68-kilogram division.

Dustin Helwig was third in the 54-kilogram weight class, while Mike Ragotte, Sam Dreidger and Brandon Gardner were fifth in the 61-, 65- and 72-kilogram division respectively. Colten Woznow was third in the 90-kilogram category, the same placing Trevor Steffler earned in the 130-kilogram class.

Nikkilas Wilson was fourth amongst the 82-kilogram wrestlers and Jamie Funk wound up sixth in the 76-kilogram class.

In the 68-kilogram category Jason Bresele finished on top.

For the women, Aislynn Torfason took No. 1 in the 59-kilogram category, while Nicole Plummer was the winner of the 82-kilogram division.

Jes Smith finished second in the 55-kilogram class, while Jessica Berhatsky, Alexi Kreps and Karleagh Bonk each earned third-place finishes.
