Brock Curtis, head coach of Lakehead's wrestling programs on Tuesday announced the addition of four new wrestlers to its women's team for the upcoming 2011-2012 season:

Kate Beaulieu of Sault Ste. Marie, StephTonn, of Barrie, KelseyDayler, of Midland, and Megan Smith, ofSmith Falls.

All of the new recruits have accomplished wrestling careers in their respective high school and club teams, and will be joining an LU team that placed 4th at CIS nationals last year, and hope to improve that team result as they will host the CIS wrestling championships in 2012.

Beaulieu will pursue studies in English literature and explains her choice to come to Lakehead:

"I chose to wrestle and study at Lakehead not only because of their reputation for turning out great wrestlers and for their academics, but because as soon as I stepped foot on campus I loved it. It felt perfect for someone who is used to going to a smaller high school in Northern Ontario.

“Surrounded by trees and cut through by a creek, the campus felt just like home. And of course my coach went there, so that helped a little too."

Both Tonn and Dayler come from the Mariposa Wreslting Club, with Tonn enrolled in Computer Science and Dayler enrolled in Kinesiology.

Smith will be studying Concurrent Education.

Curtis has big plan for the women's program's progression this season as they look to use home mat advantage at the CIS tournament:

"Last season all of our women wrestlers qualified for the CIS Championships and placed fourth as a team, all without a 67kg and a 72kg wrestler.

“Our incoming wrestlers fill those gaps and strengthen our current weight classes tremendously. These wrestlers are talented and tough, and I expect some great wrestling from them in the future. I really look forward to having them here at Lakehead and in helping them achieve their goals."
