Zimak finishes 173rd at Boston Marathon

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay long-distance runner Trevor Zimak put in an impressive performance on Monday at the Boston Marathon. 

Zimak, 35. crossed the finish line in a time of 2:33:59, good for 173rd overall and 160th in the men's category, a race won by Kenya's Lawrence Cherono in a blistering 2:07.59. 

Zimak was one of at least five local runners in the prestigious race. 

Scott Wiebe was about 10 minutes slower, making his way around the famed 26-mile course in 2:43:42, the 552nd runner to cross the finish line. 

Ryan Macdonald clocked in at 3:20:20, while Rick MacEachern finished in 3:45:13. 

Murillo's Betty Annala also competed, completed the grueling race in 3:51:44.

Deborah Frederickson, the lone female in the group, qualified, but did not compete because of an injury, Instead she took part in Saturday's five-kilometre race.
