Zuback scores

Thunder Bay’s Brittany Zuback scored the opening goal on Sunday, paving the way for Ontario’s 4-1 win over British Columbia to kick off the women’s hockey tournament at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Thunder Bay’s Brittany Zuback scored the opening goal on Sunday, paving the way for Ontario’s 4-1 win over British Columbia to kick off the women’s hockey tournament at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Amanda Makela, fresh off a stint with Canada’s under-18 national women’s team, is a goaltender with Team Ontario.

Other Thunder Bay athletes will have to wait until Monday to make their Games debut.

Nordic skiers Michael Somppi , Jimmy Gunka and Chris Hamilton will have their first race at Martock Ski Centre, located about an hour outside of Halifax.

Also competing are National Development Centre-Thunder Bay skiers Erin Tribe and Andy Shields, as well as Andrea Lee, who is competing for British Columbia.
