Thunder Bay’s Brittany Zuback scored the opening goal on Sunday, paving
the way for Ontario’s 4-1 win over British Columbia to kick off the
women’s hockey tournament at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.
Amanda Makela, fresh off a stint with Canada’s under-18 national women’s team, is a goaltender with Team Ontario.
Other Thunder Bay athletes will have to wait until Monday to make their Games debut.
Nordic
skiers Michael Somppi , Jimmy Gunka and Chris Hamilton will have their
first race at Martock Ski Centre, located about an hour outside of
Halifax.
Also competing are National Development Centre-Thunder
Bay skiers Erin Tribe and Andy Shields, as well as Andrea Lee, who is
competing for British Columbia.
