Mr. Aarne Levanen, age 73 years passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 with family by his side.

Born Oct. 9, 1937 in the family home in Conmee Township, as a young man Aarne worked for CN Railways, Great Lakes Paper and many other camps. He spent twenty years as a grader operator and ten years as a lead hand for the City of Thunder Bay.

Aarne was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known to share a good joke and talk for hours about the experiences he had. He had a love for animals and especially loved his dog Tassu. Aarne enjoyed weekends relaxing at camp with Elsa, riding around with the three-wheeler, also hunting and logging. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survived by his wife Elsa, children Irene Rautio (Allan) of Thunder Bay, Arnold Levanen (Tonya) of British Columbia, Tammy Cheshire (Tom) of Tennessee, stepdaughter Margaret Kujala (Alan) of Grand Bend, grandchildren Leah, Candace, Adam, Daniel, Erik, Ryan, Steven, Sasha and great grandson Parker, brother Viljo Levanen (Josie), cousin Elenor Pendziwol. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Predeceased by his parents Adam Levanen and Irja (Hakola) Levanen, stepson Eric Isomaki and brother Saul Levanen.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Aarne Levanen will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Hilldale Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma in care of funeral arrangements.
