ALBERT DOUGLAS DURANT
1935 - 2016

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Albert Douglas Durant, on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the TBRHSC, with his loving family at his side.   Al was born on October 12, 1935 in Fort William to Mona and Eldee Durant and lived  here his entire life.

He was educated at Central School, FWCI and had pride in never taking a school bus.  He furthered his studies for five years as an Articling Student through Queen’s University, at Dunwoody, Saul, Smith & Company, becoming a Chartered Accountant in 1960.  While there, he met and married the secretary, Ann (Pronych), and they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary at the Valhalla Inn on July 16, 2016.  His entire career as a CA was at Revenue Canada, retiring in 1996.

Al was a family man who kept very busy with the upkeep of yard, garden, home and was proud of his ability to “dig” at  80.  He turned to golf numerous times, quitting in frustration “because golf balls had their own sense of direction.”

He embraced the challenge of technology and became a “computer geek” to whom family invariably turned with related problems.  Over the years The Chronicle Journal published Al’s thought-provoking articles, on various topics.

Al is survived by his wife, Ann, three treasured children, Douglas (Monika), Lisa Fowler (Don) and Lorelei Wright (Jim),  seven precious grandchildren – Cameron, Nolan, Sidney and Carson Wright, Emily and Alissa Fowler and Melanie Durant.  He had such pride for his “offspring” and many trips were made to Southern Ontario where they all now reside.

Also surviving are his brother Larry (Violet), Sister Sandra (Bob) Ennis and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents Mona and Eldee, his sister Ethel Fodchuk and her husband Ormie,  brother Donald and his wife Helen, numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations to The Salvation Army or charity of your choice.

Respecting Al’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A family Celebration of Life and interment will be held at a later date.

Albert Durant will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
