Mr. Albert Anthony Villella, age 93 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2017 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre following a brief illness. 

Albert was born January 19, 1924 in Port Arthur Ontario. He was the youngest child of Bruno and Antonia Villella. Following his graduation from Hillcrest High School, he worked for the Canadian National Railroad for 40 years with a brief hiatus to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1946. Following retirement in 1981, Albert worked part-time at Kam Motors for 10 years.

On October 19, 1953 Albert married Leda Sacchetti who was his devoted wife for 63 years. Albert will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children Douglas (Sandra), Elizabeth Deschenes (Marcel), David (Jacqueline); grandchildren Neil, Jean-Paul, Matthew, Carly, Jennifer and Chad as well as  great grandchildren, Sandro, Jackson, Daniel, Mya, Kingston, Dylan and Hanna.  Albert also leaves behind his sister-in-law Rossana Sylvester, brothers-in-laws Benny (Bernice) and Marco (Sharon) Sacchetti  and many nieces and nephews. 

Albert was predeceased by his granddaughter Renee Deschenes-Wright, parents, siblings: Mary Sgambelluri, Fred Villella, Stella Desando, Angelina Trethewey and Jenny Presot. 

Albert was a family man who enjoyed living an honest and simple life.  One of his favourite expressions was “take it easy!”. He took joy in spending time with family and friends. Albert was well known for his sense of humour and sharp mind. He was actively involved in his children’s recreational activities and was often seen playing baseball with the neighbourhood children or shouting from behind the boards at countless hockey games at the Carrick outdoor rink and local arenas. Albert had a keen interest in improving his knowledge; he never stopped taking courses or gathering facts.  He also enjoyed bowling, bocce, volleyball, basketball, reading, crossword puzzles, Canasta, Cribbage and watching his beloved Blue Jays on TV.   Albert was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #5, St. Anthony’s Bowling League and Corpus Christi Church. 

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Albert Villella will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 with family and friends gathering in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 9:30am celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
