Albina Krpan, age 93 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Roseview Manor with family by her side.

Albina was born on October 20, 1925 in Vidonci, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. With hopes of a better future, she and her husband Ivan immigrated to Canada in 1953. They lived in Toronto for four years before settling in Port Arthur where they raised their four children.

In her younger years, Albina's home on Van Norman Street served as a boarding house for many new immigrants from around the world, especially those from her native land of Yugoslavia. Anyone who came to her door was made to feel welcome. In those days, Albina spent most of her time preparing delicious ethnic meals and the house was filled with song and dance from the old country.

Albina was a generous, vivacious, and creative woman of many talents. Her passions included singing, dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, preserving, cooking, sausage making, and wine making. She enjoyed the company of little children, especially her grandchildren. Always young at heart, Albina will be best remembered for her sense of humour. She loved to laugh and make others laugh. Her quick wit and antics kept those in her company entertained.

In later years, Albina's struggle with dementia tested her independent nature, feist, humour, and caregivers. Special thanks and gratitude to the staff of Roseview Manor.

Survived by her daughter Ivanka Harris, grandchildren Jamie, Robin (Wade), Erin (Braydon), Casey (Josh), Kelly (Bryan), Jesse (Nathan), Jennifer, Jonathan (Miranda), Joel (Veronika), Daniel (Christina), Slade, Allison (Ian), Shane (Laura), and Natalie. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, sister Vera Sipek, and numerous other relatives.

Predeceased by sons Marin, Michael, and Peter; parents Jurej and Terezija Ficko; brothers Vili and Kalman; sisters Irma Spilak, Milka Matan, Maria Vegi; son-in-law Allan Harris.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N Court St, with Fr. Victor DeGagne presiding. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time. Following service, a time of fellowship and reception will take place in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. A private family interment will be at Lappe Cemetery at a later date where Albina will be laid to rest alongside her three sons. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, or the TBRHSF Northern Cancer Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
