Alfred (Al) was born May 1, 1946 in Teulon, Manitoba. He passed away with his family by his side on August 10, 2022.

He is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Delila Drewlo, and younger sibling Edward.

He is survived by his wife Sharon and children Sandra (Mike), Pam (Bill), Tanya (Kevin). Grandchildren Alyssa (Brent), Paige, Sydney, Ashton and Joshua.  Siblings Erma (Raymond), Eleanor (Mickey), Ted (Pat), Karen (Shawn).

His family settled in Thunder Bay where he completed his apprenticeship in carpentry. He later ventured out on his own to start his own business, Al Drewlo General Carpentry.  He was dedicated to his work, but always had time for family. He loved attending family reunions, following the family tree, and keeping in contact with family members.

With Sharon and his girls, he would take trips to visit family in Manitoba, especially Erma and family.  Weekends were times spent with his mom, his sisters Eleanor and Karen and their families in Thunder Bay.  He kept in contact with his brother Ted by phone who lives in Southern Ontario who he always called Teddy.  Al and Sharon made annual trips at Thanksgiving to visit Sandra and family (Owen Sound), and Teddy (Milton/Guelph), and took trips to visit Tanya and family (Winnipeg).  When Pam and Bill lived upstairs, he had the joy of having Alyssa as a daily visitor.

His hobbies were puzzles, playing cards, watching old western movies, picking blueberries, and reading.  He was very active in the church: head usher, Elder, attended Bible Studies, read sermons, well known for his very deep bass voice in the choir, and he was nicknamed “The Candy Man” as he always brought candy to share with the young and old.

Thank you to Eleanor who would drop everything when Sharon needed respite, Ted for being by his side during his last days at St. Joe’s, Sharon K, Robin, and Wendy for their support and friendship, Pastor Otke for spiritual support, his family doctor Dr. Trochimchuk, and all of his doctors and nurses of St. Joe’s Care Group, especially Dr. Sellick.

At Lappe Lutheran Church,  on Monday August 15th, Visitation is at 10am, Service is at 11am. There will be a private family interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Following the service at 1:30pm, there is a reception at Harbourview Funeral Centre for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The War Amps or the Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated, if desired.
