Alfred Fortier

It is with profound sadness that the family of Alfred (Fred) Fortier announce his passing at the age of 84 years, on February 20th, 2022.

Fred was born on April 2, 1937, in Palmarolle, Quebec. He worked in the bush his entire life, and many may have passed through on roads that he worked on. After retirement, he started a firewood business on Lakeshore Drive in Thunder Bay called Best Firewood. He retired yet again only to start a second firewood yard called Fred’s Firewood which is located on Twincity Crossroads.

Fred will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Rose Anne, children Debbie (Rex), Millan, grandchildren Justin, Valery (Rob), Ryan, Dylan, and great-grandchild Finley, the love of his life. He is also survived by his brothers Maurice (Therese), Jean-Guy (Lynn), sisters Rose, Tia and Reina (Normand). Fred is also survived by his in-laws, Laurette, Marcelle, Sylvio (Micheline), Norma, Guy (Sue), Mariette (Terry). He was predeceased by his children, Jo-Anne, Glenn, Stephan, parents Clara and Ernest, brothers Paul, Rene, Joseph, George, and Richard.

Fred is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Many of whom have fond memories of their uncle who loved to dance to the Cajun music at the Grand Portage Casino.

The family would like to thank the Thunder Bay Regional Police, Constable Lucas Bagley, and Thunder Bay paramedics.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held later this summer.

Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.
