Toivonen Allan
Mr. Allan William Toivonen passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the age of 90 with supportive loving family at his side. He was happy being able to live at home until the end.
Allan was born in Port Arthur November 27, 1930 to William and Annie (Kiiskila). He had fond memories of time spent at his grandparents’ dairy farm including delivering Kiiskila Dairy products. Carpentry and construction would be the basis of his working life. In 1956 Allan and a cousin would join Lei Sillman in Sillman Company. His involvement would be in various construction divisions of the company. As president of Sillman Company (Construction) Al would retire with pride in the work completed leaving his mark with many buildings and projects throughout Northwestern Ontario and Calgary.

Over the years, Allan was a member of the Lion’s Club, Construction Association and the Thunder Bay Country Club. Golfing and curling were activities Allan particularly enjoyed. Most important was time spent with family and friends. The camp was a special place which gave him great joy.

August 27, 1960 Allan married Emma (Bruni) and they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2020. Together they built a home, raised 2 sons, Wayne and David, welcomed a daughter-in-law, Lana and then were overjoyed with the arrival of granddaughter Brooklyn. She was Papa's pride and joy. He watched her play soccer, attended piano and dance recitals and was proud of her success in school. Most of all he loved to see the beautiful person growing before his eyes. Allan and Emma enjoyed vacations in Hawaii, England and family vacations in Florida. Many wonderful winters were spent in Arizona and Florida.

Allan was predeceased by his parents William and Annie, father-in-law Pasquale Bruni, many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as sisters and brothers-in-law. He is survived by his wife Emma, sons Wayne and David (Lana), granddaughter Brooklyn, sister Joan (Nanton, Alberta), brother and sisters –in-law William (Fleurette) Bruni, Julia Milani, Maureen Bruni and many nieces, nephews as well as cousins.

As per Allan’s wish there will be no funeral. Due to gathering restrictions, a private interment service will be held at Riverside Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the TBRHS Foundation-Hearts at Home campaign or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
