With immense love and respect, the Retar family announces the passing of Ana Retar on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Born July 18, 1934, Ana was a proud woman who left Slovenia in 1961 to join her soon to be husband Ciril; they spent the next 56 years by each other’s side.

Ana’s greatest love was her family. She will forever be admired and adored by her children Frank (Karen) and Julie (Frank) who only had the opportunities that they did because of the courage and sacrifices she made over a lifetime. ‘Babi’ will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Anna, Michael and Eva.

Ana always put the needs of others first, often to her own detriment. She loved spending countless hours in the garden in the summertime, even after her illness made it all but impossible for her to walk. She always shared her bounty with those closest to her as she never wanted anything to go to waste. She leaves behind to mourn many nieces and nephews in her native Slovenia, being the last of 14 children in her family.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on the evening of Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with prayers the same evening at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre. Funeral Mass for the late Ana Retar will be celebrated Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church, presided by Father Biju Mathew. Burial to follow in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
