Born on October 25, 1918 in Korostovychi, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Ukraine. Left Ukraine in 1944 ahead of the advancing Soviet Army and did farm work in Austria from August 1944 until August 1945. He was accepted as an immigrant to Canada and became a citizen on 3 July 1958. Settled in Thunder Bay (Fort William) where he worked for the majority of time with Provincial Paper (formerly Abitibi). He was a member of the Ukrainian Canadian organizations such as the Ukrainian National Federation, Ukrainian Canadian Social Services and the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Thunder Bay.  

After having lived 99 years, he died peacefully on October 31, 2017 and is survived by distant relatives in Ottawa and Ukraine. He actively supported contacts with his family in Ukraine, travelled, enjoyed friendly relations with his neighbours and acquaintances and enjoyed walking and gardening.

Visitation at Blake’s Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street South, Thunder Bay  on Monday, November 6  at noon to 1:30pm followed by a Memorial Service (chyn pokhoronu and panakhyda)  with Reverends V.Chvets  and S. Didur  officiating.  Interment at Mountain View Cemetery In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration 629 McIntosh St, Thunder Bay, ON P7C 3A3
