Angela Isernia

We are profoundly heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear Mother, Nonna, Zia, Sister and friend, Angela (Foglia) Isernia, age 86, who passed peacefully at Southbridge Pinewood with her family by her side on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

Angela was born in Tufino, Napoli, Italy on April 22, 1936. She was the 3rd eldest of 7 children and faced profound difficulties after losing her father when she was 13 years old. In December of 1953, at the young age of 17, Angela immigrated to Canada alone to be with her eldest brother Tony and sister Loretta.

In 1958, she went to Italy for her sisters wedding and met the love of her life Nicola Isernia. In March of the same year, they married in Italy and moved back to Fort William. Angela worked hard to provide for her family. In her working career, she worked at the Westfort Hotel, Dresswell Dry Cleaner and 30 years at McKellar General Hospital where she then retired to help raise her granddaughter Katherine. She loved cooking Sunday meals for her family & having an open home for all friends, but her passion was baking delicious Italian homemade pastries. She taught herself how to crochet and loved having her friends over every Wednesday night for the stitch and bitch club! Angela was a generous and loving Nonna and would do anything for anyone.

Mom will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter Catherine (Roger) Landry, and son Joe (Avril) Isernia. Her pride and joys - granddaughter Katherine Landry, and grandsons Nicholas and Aaron Isernia. Her sisters Rose Isernia, Elena Galeotalenza, Josie Sacino, Maxine (Louie) Castelli, and sister in law Immaculata Foglia and numerous other relatives survive her.

She was predeceased by her husband Nicola Isernia, parents Filomena and Angelo Foglia, brother Antonio Foglia, sister Loretta (Antonio) Miele, Salvatore Isernia, Giuseppe Galeotalenza and Pasquale Sacino.

Thank you to all who have provided care for Angela over the past 4 years and to all the doctors and staff from Hummingbird & Sandpiper units. A special thank you to Christa, Malary, Marichu, Robin, Jin, Katie, Tara, Brie, Allen, Kim, Royale & Brooke.

Funeral Mass will take place at St. Dominic’s Church on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022 at 11:00am celebrated by Father Mike Mahoney. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service (10:00am). Angela will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in care of WESTFORT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 Gore Street West at James.

If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Angela Isernia to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or the TBRHSF Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.
