ANITA WILHELMINA TUOMI

With heavy hearts, the family of Anita Tuomi sadly announces her passing on December 6, 2016 at the age of 72 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Anita was born on September 18, 1944 in Port Arthur to Emil and Lempi Rintamaki. She was the youngest of five children.

She met the love of her life while attending Hillcrest High School and they spent 55 years building a life together. Anita was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, granny, and great granny.

She devoted her life to her family by providing a home filled with great cooking, hot coffee and much love. Throughout her life, she also had a great passion for gardening, baking, playing canasta, and many outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and blueberry picking.

Anita was also an avid bowler and greatly enjoyed her Thursday bowling league with friends.

A source of great pride was the family camp on One Island Lake that they eventually made as their retirement home. It provided the family with many wonderful times together.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Dennis; children Shelley (Ted), Tracy (Scott), Darcy (Julie), and Steven (Karen); grandchildren Colten (Carly), Shelden, Nicole, Lexi, Cory-Lynn, Mathew, Ryan, Mitchell, Shae-Lyn and Rianna; great grandchild Jari; and eldest brother Sulo (Mildred). She is also survived by sister-in-law’s Seija (Onni) and Inga, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Anita was predeceased by her parents, sisters Sivia Maki and Aili Lehto, brother Alvar Rintamaki, brother-in-law Paul Maki, in-law’s Olavi and Eini Tuomi, and nephews Richard, Danny and Donald.

Respecting Anita’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life and interment will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harbourview Funeral Centre on Cumberland Street.
