Ann Prestash

The family sadly announces the passing of Ann Prestash (Anna Pristasova), age 85 years, at St. Joseph's Hospital on Thursday, August 11, 2022, with family by her side.

Born in Slovakia on February 6, 1937, Ann immigrated to Canada with her mother Zuzann Prestash in 1949, travelling aboard the “Samaria” until they arrived in Nova Scotia on February 23, 1949. From there they eventually made their way to Port Arthur where they reunited with her father, Michael Prestash. Ann officially became a Canadian citizen on October 9, 1958.

Ann received her education at Port Arthur Technical School. She began working at St. Joseph's Hospital as a switchboard operator and X-ray worker. Later, Ann was employed at Palm Dairies as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

In earlier years, Ann enjoyed league bowling, tending to her vegetable garden, cooking and having her family over for many dinners. Baba’s delicious pirohy and cabbage rolls were her specialty. She also enjoyed her outings to the casino, referring to them as her entertainment. In most recent years, Ann looked forward to the visits from her family. Her son David was especially dedicated to her care.

Ann’s family was always close to her heart. She freely shared her thoughts and opinions on many subjects and stood firm in her beliefs, never compromising her sense of self.

Ann is survived by her daughters, Brenda Medwick (Rod), Beverly Dove (Randy), and her son David Rabachuk (Tracey), grandchildren, Nancy Boyd (Marc), Ian Medwick (Leanne), Jill McLeod (Mark), Tara Martin (Richard), Colin Dove, and Lexi and Chloe Rabachuk. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her mother and father Zuzann and Michael Prestash.

In accordance with Ann’s wishes, a private family service to honour her life will be held at a later date.

Thank You
