It is with a heavy heart, but fond loving memories that the family of Mrs. Ann Prosyk announces her peaceful passing in Hogarth Riverview Manor on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the age of 101 years.
Mom was born on September 6, 1921 in Ethelbert, Manitoba. She married Lester Prosyk on August 22, 1942. They celebrated 73 years of marriage in August 2015.
Mom loved to bake, with her pastry being the delight of anyone who would visit their home on West Francis Street. She was a dedicated bingo fan winning her share of big jackpots over the years in church basements, the hall on Simpson Street or the recreational bingo on 4 South at Hogarth in later years.
Mom relaxed by watching television while she worked on knitting or crochet projects. So many young children were gifted with lovely sweater sets, blankets, dresses, coats, mitts and socks; each one was a labour of love.
The backyard garden in Westfort was a culinary delight. So many vegetables were eaten fresh from the plant or frozen or preserved for winter. The cucumbers became pickles, the beets became borscht. The carrots were used in carrot cake, the cabbage was used to make holubtsi, etc. The backyard trees produced apples for scrumptious apple pies. Then there were the raspberries for jam or jelly. Mom and Dad enjoyed picking mushrooms in the Fall as well as reaching way up high for high bush cranberries or for saskatoons.
The Wednesday morning craft club was a wonderful place for meeting the Broadway United Church ladies for fellowship and especially conversation and snacks. Mom attended well into her eighties with these lovely, kind women of all ages. At one time Mom became a “perogi pincher” at the church with the proceeds going to help the needy as well as church maintenance. Wednesday became her favourite day of the week.
Most of all, Mom cherished her family and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son Floren (Ileen), her daughter Iris Aho, grandchildren Kelvin Prosyk (Kate Aldred), Christine Prosyk (Terry Trochimchuk), Lisa Prosyk, and Adrienne (Stephen) Heward. She was blessed with great grandchildren Emily and Nathan Trochimchuk, Cayman Andrews, Grace Prosyk, and Harrison Heward. Ann is also survived by her brother John Belsky of Saanichton, BC who will be 100 years old this year. Mom will be missed by her best friend Bea Wyllychuk and her compassionate god daughter Eleanor Scherle of Calgary. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. The Bobinski family of cousins have always been kind and helpful. She loved them all but Allan was her favourite!
Ann was predeceased by her parents Pearl and Paul Belski, her husband Lester and her son-in-law Waino Aho, her sisters Mary, Nellie, Kay and Lena and brothers Joe, Morris, Nick, Peter and Walter.
Our family would like to thank the staff on 4 South at Hogarth Riverview Manor for the care and compassion they have shown our Mom for so many years. Many thanks to Dr. Simpson and Dr. McLean who has been Mom’s caring physician for many years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the DaVinci Centre on Saturday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00pm. A private interment will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to WESTFORT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
