It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Anna Ruberto. Mom passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the age of 78 at St. Joe’s Care Group on Friday April 6, 2018. True to character, she handled it with strength and grace. On more than one occasion doctors and nurses reveled at how strong mom was.

Mom was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on June 8th, 1939, the daughter of Agostino and Assunta Mauro. She was one of 10 siblings born into a close and loving family. She was the first of her siblings to come to Canada in 1957 at the age of 18 to join her father. Soon after arriving she met her soulmate Frank Ruberto who she wed in July 1961. From that moment on she dedicated her life to raising her 4 children.

Mom’s home was always a gathering place for family and friends. Everyone was welcomed to visit at any time whether it was for a cup of coffee or a late night snack. She loved to have her house filled with people hosting parties for all occasions. If she was not entertaining, she was getting together with her sisters to make sauce, sausages and Italian baking.

Mom was most proud of her role as Nonna to her 9 grandchildren and most recently Bisnonna to her 2 great grandchildren. They became the center of her world and she spoiled them with her love and her cooking. The grandchildren could do no wrong in her eyes and they returned this affection with an unwavering love and respect.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rosemarie Campbell (Paul), Vince (Gina), Tony (Susan), Frank (Michele). She will be greatly missed by grandchildren Robert (Amanda), Brittany, Kristi, Julia, Sophia, Nathan, Georgia, Sydney, Chloe and great grandchildren Ellie-Rose and Remy. Siblings Elena Iachetta, Victoria Iachetta, Norina Marrello (Emilio), Franca Costantino (Tony), Lina Colistro (Francesco), Alba Filice and sister in law Rose Mauro. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her loving husband Frank, brother in law John Ruberto, parents Agostino and Assunta Mauro, brother Pasquale Mauro, sisters Maria Turco (Ettore), Emilia Francella (Luigino) and brother in laws, Raffaele Iachetta, Fernando Iachetta and Mario Filice.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street at 10:30 am to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 am, celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. All services are complete in the church and a private entombment will be held in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Vigil Prayers at 7:00 pm. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Canadian Liver Foundation or Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
