It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved wife and mother Anna Sacco, nee Costantino, on January 3, 2019 with her loving family by her side.

Anna was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on May 30, 1928, the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria Costantino and the middle sibling of six children. She married the love of her life, Francesco “Frank” and they immigrated to Canada in search of a better life and to also join her sister. She later had two children, her son Rosario “Ross” and daughter Maria “Mary”. She found joy being a devoted wife and loving mother, often telling her children stories of her homeland.

At home her passion was cooking, making delicious meals, especially lasagna, tomato sauce from tomato plants in her garden and weekly homemade bread and “taralli”. In the earlier years she also enjoyed watching game shows like the Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune while waiting for her family to come home from work and school. Sitting in the sunroom, attached to the house her husband built, was a favourite place for Anna and her family. She would play cards, relax and take in the warm weather during the summer or spend time with relatives and friends. Over the years she made several Afghans as she had a gift for crocheting.

Spending time with her sisters Leonilda and Nella kept a special bond. Her faith was important, attending Mass with her family at St. Anthony’s Church. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 25 years.

Anna celebrated many milestones; the last one was her 50th wedding anniversary and her children organized a party to have family share some good food and laughter together. She enjoyed some travelling, Italy and Toronto, to visit her sister Battistina and family and also attend many weddings.

She worked for a few years at the PAGH and later for Tocheri Apartments where she made several friendships.

Anna will be sadly missed and forever remembered by Frank, her husband of 63 years, son Rosario “Ross”, daughter Maria “Mary”, sisters Leonilda Stilla and Nella Gambaretto, brother Michael, sisters-in-law Tonina Caputo, Giovanna Mauro, others in Italy, comparis Rosa and Amerigo Coltellaro, brother-in-law Eugenio Caputo, niece Fernanda Berardelli (Toronto), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives in Canada, U.S.A and Italy.

She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Battistina Barone and Yolanda Costantino, brothers-in-law Antonio Barone, Emilio Stilla, Fiorillo Gambaretto and Franchino Mauro, niece Paola Sacchetti, and by many family members in the Costantino and Sacco families.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road, celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini and concelebrated by nephew Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla, V.G. Private entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Anna’s memory to the Diabetes Association of Thunder Bay or St. Anthony’s Church. Arrangements entrusted to the Harbourview Funeral Centre.
