Family and friends are sad to announce that Anne Dankowich (nee Yaremchuk) passed away peacefully on May 13, with her son Ron at her side, at Hogarth Riverview Manor, where she was a resident for ten years.

Anne was born on a farm in Saskatchewan, on December 30, 1920, and lived in Thunder Bay (Fort William) from 1944 to 2017.

She was preceded by husband Peter, and sisters Evangeline, Sophie, and Doreen. She is survived by sister Lena, son Ron, grandchildren Jordan (spouse Nathalie), Colin (Nicola), and great-grandchildren Rebecca, Cameron, and Kieran.

Anne was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, "Exaltation of the Holy Cross", on Victoria Avenue. She was also active as a member of the Slovak Legion Branch 129, where she participated in the baking, cooking, and general activities as a volunteer. Summers for Anne were spent at their camp at Squaw Bay, where Anne and Peter tended a huge garden in spite of the occasional destruction by the wildlife. Anne loved gardening; vegetables (especially potatoes) and flowers grew in abundance with Anne's loving care.

Anne was avidly devoted to family: son Ron, family out West and locally, friends and neighbours all felt the power of her soft, gentle love, which she gave unconditionally. She will be dearly missed by some of her closest friends, especially Donna and Bob Parisien, and their children Michael and Melissa. Nieces and nephews express their sadness at Anne's passing; Anne and Peter's visits to family out West were treasured as very special occasions. It is imperative to note here that Anne received the best care possible at the Hogarth Riverview Manor, where the staff and managers all warmed up to her uncomplaining and pleasant presence. Staff have also expressed their sadness that Anne has left.

A private viewing will be held for the family at the Blake Funeral Chapel, and a grave-side service will be held at 2:30 at the Riverside Cemetery on Wednesday May 17, where all are welcome. A private reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
