With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Anne Agnes Galandzy at the age of 83. Anne passed peacefully surrounded by her children, in the early morning of Sunday September 2, 2018.

Anne was raised and educated locally in Thunder Bay and graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing Program. After Anne graduated, she started to fulfill her lifelong dream of travel and adventure and moved to Illinois. Her childhood sweetheart Roy went to bring her back after only six months and they were soon married. They then made Thunder Bay their home. Anne and Roy celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June, and he has recently predeceased her.

Anne raised six children, but she opened her heart and home to many more. There was always room at the table.

Anne’s working life was spent at McKellar Hospital and she later retired from Grandview Lodge. Anne loved to travel, and these adventures took her from coast to coast as well as overseas.

Family was the most important thing to Anne. She easily created a safe and welcoming home for all that entered. She was kind and gentle except when playing cards and dealing with her bankers.

Anne had many lifelong friends, some she would consider sisters. She still has many friends from her childhood. Her “Golden Girls” group continues to meet regularly. Anne continued to make new and special friends well into her later life.

Anne was very active in her faith and it was there that she found avenues to connect with so many people in so many ways. We will miss her greatly.

Anne is predeceased by her husband Roy. She is survived by children Barbara (Xenn Scott, Erin), David (Maureen, Kelly, (Dean, Cassie, Tommy) Michael (Ashley)), Karen (Tony), Debra (Richard), Beverley (Robert,) and Suzanne (Randall, Calvin); Sisters Betty (Dale) Buckley and Jody Picklyk, both in Nova Scotia. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Anne is predeceased by son Michael at birth, granddaughter Jill Galandzy, parents Antoinette and Joseph Rybar, brother Joseph and sister in law Mary Rybar and Peter Picklyk.

As per Anne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and internment will take place at a later date. A funeral mass celebrating the life of Anne Galandzy will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at St Elizabeth Church, 766 Sprague Street, Thunder Bay. A reception will follow immediately afterwards at the church.

Anne and Roy supported many charities. If friends desire, a donation in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Shelter House, The Underground Gym or the Dew Drop In would be appreciated.
