Anne Mary Ross

Anne Mary Ross passed away peacefully, her family by her side, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, Oct. 29. 

Born on July 25, 1946 in Valleyfield, Quebec she was the daughter of Margaret O'Connor and Allan Doherty.

Anne grew up in Montreal and attended the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing.  She married Peter Ross in 1967and spent her early married years living in Toronto before moving to Thunder Bay in the early 1970s.  Anne continued her education at Lakehead University completing her HBScN and winning the Dean Braun Medal.

Her nursing career saw Anne fulfill a variety of roles, most recently she was the Director of General Medicine at TBRHSC.

Anne enjoyed playing golf at the Thunder Bay Country Club, gardening, playing Bridge with the "Old Girls" and spending time at the family cottage at Loon Lake.  Her three grandchildren were her greatest joy and they love her dearly.

She is survived by her partner Garry Post, daughters Jennifer (Gary) Hannula and Stephanie(Sarah) Ross, grandchildren Peter, Gavin and Brynn, sisters Sheila (Jacques) Carriere, Ellen Schaffeler, Margie(Ian) Doherty, brothers Allan and Chris (Pam), brothers-in-law Michael(Susan) and Tom(Krys) Ross,numerous nieces and nephews as well as the Post family Jon(Grace Anne), Gavin(Trish), Keltie(Riley) and Emily.

Anne was predeceased by her son David James, husband Peter Ross, parents Richard Allan and Margaret Doherty, sister Nancy Taylor and brothers-in-law Dana Biggs, Peter Shaffeler and John Taylor.

Anne was an extraordinary woman who had a significant impact on the lives of so many people from colleagues, friends and neighbours to her beloved family.  Anne always put the needs of others before her own, never letting loved ones down.  Above all she was a cherished partner, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.  She was the heart of our family.  Everyone went to her for love, support and wisdom of which she gave abundantly.  She will be dearly missed.
 
Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov.1, 2010 when family and friends will gather in Corpus Christi R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 2:30 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk.  Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 3 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers donations to  the Northern Cancer Fund, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
