 It is with great sadness, the family of Annie Jansje Catharina Henny (nee Teenstra) announce the peaceful passing away of our mother and oma on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 89 years old. Ann was born on May 7, 1928 in Grijpskerk, The Netherlands. She grew up and studied in Holland. On January 20, 1949 she married Carel Henny. They raised 3 children and in 1964 decided to immigrate with their family to Canada. They settled in the Mississauga area where their fourth child was born. A second adventurous move led them to Thunder Bay in 1969 where they purchased and operated Dog Lake Resort along with their children until 1986.

Ann drove the school bus for many years in the Murillo area which she loved. She loved her home and always created a very gezellig atmosphere for her family especially during holidays. She loved caring for her flowers and plants. She adored her many dogs and cats throughout her life. She was very creative and expressed this through writing poetry, cross-stitch, sewing and crafting. She loved music and excelled at playing the piano. In retirement Ann and Carl travelled extensively throughout Canada and the US, enjoying their winter trips to Arizona, and summertime camping. They made numerous return trips to Holland to visit family, and also touring Europe.

Ann is survived by her children Carl (Jean), Anneke (Roger), Martin (Theresa), Bridget (Paul); her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Fred and Colleen (Cameron, Matty), Wendy and Tom (Oliver, Evelyn), Travis and Jamie (Nova), Marlies and Chris, Chantelle,  Nick and Courtney (Emelie, Nathan, Cullen), Danielle and Jay (Lauren, Allison, Joel), Matt and Sarah (Cambell, Ellery), Brandi and Serge, Jade, and numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by her husband Carl in 2016, her parents Cornelis and Antje, sisters Catharina and Martje, brother Pete, and great grandchildren Hilo.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 1:00 pm, at Westminster United Church, 650 River Street, in Thunder Bay, officiated by Jim Hyder. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the church prior to the service. Reception to follow the service. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. The family would like to thank the staff at 65 Hogarth Riverview Manor for their care and compassion of our mother.
