It is with deep sadness and broken hearts, the family of Annie Elizabeth Pero (Covino) announces her passing on November 7, 2018 in TBRHSC with her daughter Beverly, son-in-law Ron and granddaughters Lori and Keri by her side, after suffering a severe stroke at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Born Annie Elizabeth Covino on June 18, 1926 in Fort William, Ont. to parents Louie and Mary Covino. Annie was the second youngest of 4 siblings, Joe, Frances, Margaret and Louie. She was a very special and loving daughter and sister, in a very close caring family. Annie was a devoted wife and caregiver to her husband Raymond. She was the best and greatest mother to her daughter Beverly and the most thoughtful and kind mother-in-law to Ron. She was a very special and amazing grandmother to Lori and Keri and their husbands Chris and Blair. She was the most precious great grandmother to Presley, Avery, Mason and Maddy.
Annie lived her entire life in the family home on McIntosh St. in the East End. She attended St. Peter’s School and was a lifetime member to both St. Dominic’s Church East End and to St. Peter’s Church and CWL. Annie’s working career began at a very early age, starting at the Fort William Daily Times Journal Commercial Printers Bindery Dept. and then later retiring from Lakehead University Print Shop at the age of 65. Annie’s proudest accomplishment was when she was able to purchase her own home after many years of hard work. This was the family home she lived in. Annie loved to travel on her holidays, whether it be by car, train, bus or plane to spend time with her brother Louie in Vancouver and sister Frances in Calgary and also sharing trips with her sister Margaret. Annie’s favourite trip was with her daughter Beverly when she won a trip at Loblaws to California.
After her retirement, Annie spent all of her time with her daughter Beverly and Ron, and grandchildren Lori and Keri, travelling to many places or just spending great times together. Soon the family got larger with husbands and great grandchildren that would take her on more trips celebrating special holidays whether short or long, camping trips, or just sleepovers, she loved it all. Her favourite time was Sunday dinners together at her home. Annie became a caregiver faithfully taking care of Ron’s mother Rose, helping her sister Margaret with her husband Joe and later hardly missing a day to be with Margaret in her time of need. She also travelled to Vancouver and Calgary to be with her brother Louie and sister Francis during their last days.
Annie later became in need of care herself. Unfortunately, early Dementia took a turn towards Annie, robbing her of her day to day memory. Annie went to St. Joseph's Care Group, while waiting for long term care at Hogarth.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, Louie and Mary Covino, husband Raymond, siblings Joe, Frances, Margaret and Louie, brother-in laws Joe Lewadny and Buster Hawke, sister-in-laws Celeste and Merilyn Covino, as well as many nieces and nephews. Annie is survived by her only child daughter Beverly (Ron) Wychopen, her special granddaughters Lori (Chris) Morin, Keri (Blair) Arthur and her precious great grandchildren Presley, Avery, Mason and Maddy. Special niece and nephew Laraine(Richard) Tapak and Brian(Brenda)Lewadny, numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay, Vancouver, Calgary, Ancaster, Kingston and Elgin, IL. Her early caregiver Magdalena Vistaskova, special angels Betty Calvert and Anne Korcheski and lifetime friend Mary Harkema. Annie will always be remembered for her faith in God, beautiful smile and her unconditional love and kindness to her family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday November 21, 2018 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service time. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church Fund, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation - Northern Cardiac Fund or Northern Cancer Fund or to the charity of your choice.
Annie Pero will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
