ANTOINE SEURET
July 10, 1940 – March 18, 2015

Antoine “Tony” Hermann Seuret, age 74 years, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 with his wife and sister by his side.

Tony was born in Montreal, Québec and later moved to Oakville, Ontario with his parents and sister. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as his Master’s in Business Administration.

This was followed by Tony’s ten-year career at Lakehead University as a Professor in the School of Business, followed by Chair of the School of Business. His dedication to ‘a higher education’ did not end there, however. Tony continued his relationship with Lakehead University in his numerous roles on the Board of Governors, including Vice-Chair and Chair of the Board.

Tony’s twenty-five-year career in broadcasting as Vice-President and General Manager of Thunder Bay Television, plus Radio Thunder Bay in his later years, were filled with challenges and changes that he spoke of with tremendous pride.

Known as a ‘broadcasting guru’, visionary and brilliant man by his fellow broadcasting colleagues in Canada, Tony was praised for the articulate and professional way in which he presented and dealt with broadcasting issues that were often encompassed in meetings with the Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission.

One of his most precious accomplishments was Tony’s Island, where he spent every summer and winter, whenever possible, creating a bird and wildlife sanctuary.

Tony and Anne worked endlessly on making the Island the Paradise it is today, with one of the largest concentrations of tree swallows on the North Shore. This is where he built his castle, refurbished his windmill, developed systems for sprinklers and ponds, as well as repaired, designed and built equipment – all part of his desire to make his Island the self-sustaining oasis he envisioned.

Tony was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer Seuret, and parents Elizabeth and Germain Seuret.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Anne Turcotte; his adoring sister, Rita Seeley (Terry); his daughter, Allison Seuret and stepson, Jesse Uliana (Amanda Murray); his grandchildren, Anthony, Fox and Talia Andriccola, and Trinity and Kane Uliana; brother-in-law, Albert Turcotte (Elaine), sisters-in-law Lise Turcotte, Yvette Canaday (Dave) and Rochel Turcotte; and numerous nieces and nephews; his dearest friends Harry & Nancy Elmslie, Suzanne & Peter Tighe, Cathy & Grant Walsh, Drago & Barb Krmpotic, and the many other friends too numerous to mention.

Tony may have been one person in the world, yet he meant the world to many, particularly his uncanny ability to combine his brilliant intellect with captivating humour.

A Celebration of Life for Tony Seuret will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 in the Nor'Wester Resort Hotel, 2080 Hwy 61, Thunder Bay, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma in care of arrangements.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, specifically for research on Pancreatic Cancer.
