Antonio Marrello

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather Antonio Marrello, age 90 years, of Hogarth Riverview Manor who passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday June 17, 2017 with family by his side.

Antonio was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on April 7, 1927. He married Giustina in 1952 and later, together with their son John, they came to Canada in 1960.

When Antonio first came to Canada he worked as a labourer and also did cement work until he settledin, at CN Railway where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed gardening; producing some of the finest grape vines in the neighbourhood. He took pleasure in making wine and sausages with relatives. Antonio was an avid backyard mechanic and jack of all trades, he was known by many as “Maestro Antonio.”

In 1992 Antonio’s life became complete with the birth of his grandson Justin. Justin was the pride and joy of Antonio’s life and he treasured every moment he spent with him.

A true testament to Antonio’s character was how devoted he was to Giustina when she became ill. At this time he took over the household duties, including cooking. He became quite the cook; his specialties were his sauce and baking bread, which he did until he moved to Hogarth in March 2016. Antonio enjoyed cooking for his family and sharing meals with them.

Antonio was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish and in his later years he looked forward to the Tuesday afternoon gatherings at the Church. Many memories were Shared with friends while playing cards and socializing.

Antonio will be sadly missed by his son Mario (Pam); grandson Justin (Madison); brother Giovanni Marrello, Italy; sister Antonietta Vetere, Italy; brother Giuseppe Marrello, Italy; sister-in-law Antonietta Magarelli. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife Giustina in 2003, son John in 1973; mother Raffaela; father Giuseppe; brother Giacomo; and brother-in-law Michele Magarelli.
