Antonios Biniaris
It is with great sadness that the family of Antonios “Tony” Biniaris announce his unexpected passing on Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 in his own home.

He was born on October 10th, 1929 in Valtetsi, Greece. At an early age, he worked various jobs in order to provide an income for his Mother and his siblings. From 1944 to 1947, he served in the Army as a Sergeant. Ten years later, he immigrated to Canada in hopes of a better life. He returned to Greece in 1958 to marry his fiancé, Anastassia Kalogiannis. They were blessed with their first son, Kyriakos in 1959 and the three of them made their way back to Canada, eventually settling in Port Arthur in 1960.

In 1966, they were blessed with their second son, George. Tragedy hit home in 1973 when Kyriakos suddenly passed away. Tony focused his attention on providing the best he could for his family, Anastassia and George. He always looked forward to family gatherings with his three brothers and their families.

You could always find Tony Greek dancing, entertaining guests and participating in many Greek festivities and traditions. He also enjoyed his hunting weekends and playing poker with the guys.

Tony worked various jobs in Thunder Bay and retired from Abitibi Paper Mill after 25 years of service.

In 1997, Anastassia suffered from a stroke that limited her speech and movement. Tony spent a lot of his of time helping her with all her daily activities. The two of them were blessed with their three precious grandchildren; Alexandra, Anthony, and Zachary Biniaris. Tony’s second heartbreak was when Anastassia passed away in 2007. He dedicated the rest of his time to his three grandchildren.

He cherished watching Alexandra’s dance recitals and Anthony and Zach’s hockey and soccer games. Having breakfast at the Hoito while telling Greek stories was one of his favourite ways of spending time with his grandchildren.

Tony was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was involved with the church’s council.

He will be greatly missed by his son George, daughter-in-law Toni, and grandchildren Alexandra, Anthony, and Zachary. He is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-laws; George and Kathy (Rina) Biniaris, Steve Biniaris, Jenny Biniaris, and Dimitra Biniaris, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.

Tony is now reunited with his wife, Anastassia, and his son, Kyriakos. He is predeceased by parents Kyriakos and Katerina Biniaris, brother William (Bill) Biniaris, and sisters Vasiliki and Eleni (Greece).

We are truly blessed to have Papou Tony as our third guardian angel. His unconditional love will never be forgotten.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Prayers at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.
