T. Archie Fowler
June 28, 1924-March 13, 2016

Mr. Thomas Archie Fowler, age 91 years of Waverley Park Towers, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences centre on Sunday, March 13, 2016.

Archie was born on June 28, 1924 in Binscarth Manitoba, where he grew up on a dairy farm, later branching into auto mechanics. He loved hockey, and was an avid hockey player in his youth, including playing in the garage league with Port Arthur Motors.

During WW2 Archie served in the Air Force. In 1944 he married the former Mary Arline Stewart in Winnipeg, and in 1948 they moved to Port Arthur with their first 2 children (Stewart and Sonya). He was employed at Port Arthur Motors and Kam Motors. Later he was known as the “Uniroyal Tire Man” from his television ads, until 1971 when he pioneered his own car dealership bringing Mazda to the Thunder Bay region (Target Motors).

In 1950, he was involved with Mount Baldy Ski Hill and participated in bringing a chairlift and rope-tow to the facility – the first chairlift in the area.

Archie loved aircraft, and was well known within the aviation community. He was involved in several commercial and private aircraft ventures, and owned numerous aircraft including several multi-engine and float planes.

Community was very important to Archie, and he was a strong supporter of the Con College Aviation Program. He was also involved in the Kiwanis Club, Gyros, Thunder Bay Garage Operators Association, Rotary Club, the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, and the Thunder Bay Executives Association – just to name a few.

He spent his retirement years between Mesa Arizona and the family summer camp at One Island Lake.

Archie is survived by his children, Stewart (Jean), Sonya Dynes, Ross (Diane), and Marion Fowler; grandchildren Cathy Wood, Donna Stanley, and Rob Dynes, Debbie Milne, Derek Fowler and Ken Fowler; and 7 great grand-children; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 66 years, M. Arline (nee Stewart); parents George Fowler and Marion Irving Brown; brother and 2 sisters; father-in-law Rev. Dr. J.E. Stewart and mother-in-law Arline Stewart; and son-in-law Don Dynes.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Archie Fowler will be held on Wednesday March 16, 2016, at 1:00 pm in St. Paul's United Church with Rev. Randy Boyd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Services complete in the church with private interment in the family plot, Riverside Cemetery, at a later time.

If friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Archie to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, the Thunder Bay District Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.

EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, in care of arrangements.
