Arnold Allan Untinen
Arnold Allan Untinen, age 79 years, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2020 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Care with family and friends by his side.

Arnold was born on July 22, 1940 in Port Arthur, Ontario. He attended Shuniah Street School and then Port Arthur Technical High School (Hillcrest). Throughout his employed years, he spray-painted cars at his father’s Auto Body Shop; drove tractor trailer and worked in the garage on truck maintenance for Soo Security Motorways and lastly doing building and grounds maintenance at the William W. Creighton Youth Services.

A lifelong resident of Northwestern Ontario, Arnold always felt most at home in among the trees and on the lakes and rivers of the area. Arnold proudly built the family home in Shuniah among the pine trees overlooking Current River where he resided for 45 years and where he enjoyed most of his final days. As well, Arnold enjoyed days camping on Dog Lake, on Lac des Mille Lacs and Caribou Lake and in recent decades at his son and daughter-in-law’s camp on Pakashkan Lake. Carpentry was one of his passions and he handcrafted many canoes and boats over the years which all contributed to his connection to and enjoyment of nature.

Arnold is survived by his bride of 59 years, Leni; sons Kevin (Tina) and Shawn (Karen); his granddaughters Kaitlyn, Kirsten (Cory), and Robin (Kyler). In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sisters Iris and husband Norm Slongo, and Helen and husband Jim Harney and a large family of in-laws and nieces, nephews and cousins from the extended Untinen/Makela/Johnson families as well as in-laws from the extended Shaw/Dennis/Campbell families throughout Canada and the United States.

He was predeceased by his mother and father Siri and Allan Untinen, and his grandparents whom he called Aiti and Pappa - Hulda and Justus Untinen who were the cornerstones of his youth and brothers Ron and Ken Untinen and a beloved niece, nephew and cousins all gone too soon.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 14, 2020  in the reception hall at Harbourview Funeral Centre with visitation beginning one hour prior.
