There has been a huge hole left in all of our hearts as we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, papa and great-grandfather.

Arnott passed away with family by his side on February 23, 2024. He faced the last year with courage and strength after a bad fall that few people would have endured.

A full and meaningful life, he will always be remembered for his laugh, generous spirit and outgoing personality.

Arnott was born in New Castle, New Brunswick, November 16, 1931 and resided there until his mother relocated the family to Pearl, then on to Port Arthur to join their father on Oliver Road.

At 10 years old he laced on his first pair of skates and never looked back. He was recognized for his defensive abilities and stick handling skills.

Arnott assisted local teams securing many hockey championships until he was drafted to the Hershey Bears where he played alongside Don Cherry.

He would go on to play with the Quebec Aces, Winnipeg Warriors and the Victoria Cougars. Retiring from semi pro in 1958, he went on to play for the Oshawa City Police and the Thunder Bay Old Timers.

In 1954, Arnott married the love his life, Lorna Johnston. Together they raised three children and were blessed with seven grandchildren who they adored.

In 1958, Arnott was hired on as an inspector for the Ministry of MTC. He quickly climbed the ladder with promotions to Kenora, Oshawa, Toronto and then back to Thunder Bay as the Regional Manager of Drivers and Vehicles.

He served as a Director on the Harbour Youth Services Board, Member of the Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Port Arthur Junior Hockey Club and Director\President of the Thunder Bay Flying Club, member of the OPP Veterans Association and a 50 year member of the Masons Lodge.

Together Arnott and Lorna enjoyed camping and fishing at Cushing Lake with family, and travelling down to Texas each winter in their motorhome.

Although he was proud of his hockey and professional career, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved family gatherings, music and singing, working over a car engine and going for coffee with friends at the Valhalla.

Arnott was a loving husband, dedicated father and doting grandfather. Leaving to morn his passing is his wife Lorna of 69 years, children Debbie (Dave), David (Carla), Don (Tammi). Grandchildren Adam (Lauren L.), Greg (Bhreagh), Kaitlyn (Sean), Devon (Courtney), Tayler (Kevin), Ryan and Erin. Great grandchildren Leo, Charlie and Emma, brother Buddy, SIL Raili and Darlene as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Arnott Whitney would like to thank Dr. Garon and staff of 6 North at Hogarth Riverview Manor for your care and compassion. Special thanks to Dad's good friend Ray Perrier for all your morning visits and good humour. It was very much appreciated.

He loved his fur babies, especially Molly, so in lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to a local dog rescue.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday April 9 at 11:30 at the Italian Centennial Hall, Algoma Street.
