The runner runs no more. Arthur crossed the finish line on March 13th 2015.

Arthur was born on the family farm in Grandview, Manitoba and spent his early years ‘working out’ for other farmers in the district. All the fieldwork in those days was done by horsepower and he became an expert horseman. During the war he enlisted in the RCAF and completed a tour of 45 missions, as a gunner on heavy bombers, dropping 583,000 pounds of bombs on enemy targets. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After the war he came to Ontario, met and married Diane Bouvier in 1951 in Nipigon, moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay) where he built and moved into their new family home in the late 1950’s.

He worked for Can Car, now Bombardier until retirement, and then worked as a commissionaire at the airport for 10+ years. He was an ardent sports fan and coached Little League baseball for years. He coached Senior Little League teams to two Dominion championships. In all he coached and umpired Little League for forty-seven years. In 2003 he received the Queens Jubilee medal for his work in Little League. He was a lifelong volunteer in his church and community.

He was predeceased by his father, mother, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are his wife, Diane, his son Francis (wife Zenya) and daughter Ione in Thunder Bay, daughter Lisa (husband Kevin) in Toronto,  3 grand daughters, Larissa, Raya, Kali and a grandson, Christian, and 2 brothers Ralph and Len.

Respecting his wishes the body has been cremated.
