It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Audrey Trewin at the age of 87.

Audrey was born on March 4, 1934, in Saint John, New Brunswick to Havelock and Lona McLellan (Foshay) and spent the first 15 years of her life there. Traveling by train, Audrey moved to Fort William, Ontario with her mother, sister Barbara and step-father Fredrick Selkirk, where she finished her education at Fort William Collegiate.

She worked for Famous Players, Reward Shoe Store and finally at Eaton’s of Canada in the office of J. Ambercombie. She married Glen Edward Trewin on April 4, 1953 and continued to work until Norman David (March 12, 1957) was born. Terry Glen (March 22, 1972) arrived 15 years later. Audrey worked as a devoted wife and mother for her remaining days.

Audrey and Glen bought their home on the Scott Highway in Slate River in November of 1954. She belonged to Slate River United Church, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Taught the one and only Explorer Group for 16 years and was involved with the Canadian Girls In Training, becoming a mentor and developing a lifelong connection with countless young women.

Audrey remained loyal to her Maritime roots, maintaining connections to family and friends to this day. Enjoyed playing basketball in high-school, skating and loved to play volleyball, even when expecting Terry. Never forgot a birthday, anniversary or Christmas for extended family and friends for the boys, whom she had become “Ma” to many over the years. Ma made everyone feel like family. Formed a Rumoli group with neighbors and bowled at Galaxy for 24 years. She loved to cook and spend time at the Lake. Married a country boy, so meals were basic and filling. She was introduced to a hot cup of tea by her paternal Grandmother, a love that lasted a lifetime. A love that she enjoyed sharing with friends and family accompanied by a piece of her famous baking.

She is survived by her devoted husband Glen; sons Norman (Karen) and Terry (Jo-Anne); her grandchildren Ashley Pelto (Justin), Tricia De Piero, Gavin Perkins and Grace Perkins; greatgrandchildren Nickolas, Madison, Rebecca and Brodie; and sister Barbara Foreman. She was predeceased by parents Lona and Fred; her sister Eunice Hill; and grandson Gary De Piero.

Due to Covid-19, no service will be held at this time, interment to Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ALS Society of Canada or charity of choice in Audrey’s name.
