It is with broken hearts that the family announce the unexpected passing of Bernice Annie Woods, wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. Born at McKeller Hospital, Jan. 15, 1940, Bernice was raised and remained a Westfort girl all her life. Bernice was a quiet spoken but strong-willed person who touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Left to mourn the loss is her husband Dennis, sons Darrow (Lexie) and Perry (Lisa) daughter Christine Budzyk (Chris), brothers Joe and Ed Stec (Bonnie), grandchildren Nigel, Naomi Joel, Quinn and Kaya. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and friends who join the family in mourning our loss.

Bernice was extremely proud of having been a member of the Elks Royal Purple for almost 44 years and was given the highest honor the lodge could bestow upon her, that of Honored Royal Lady. She cherished her time with the Ladies, especially doing charity work with children. Sher looked forward every year to being Santa’s helper at the annual Children’s Christmas Party.

Bernice was involved for many years in the local music scene, singing in choirs and as part of various Bluegrass, Country and Gospel groups. She was co-host at the Chippewa Jam Sessions for ten years.

Having said all this, Bernice was the first and foremost a family person. Nothing gave her more joy than to be with family and friends.

A farewell gathering of friends and family will take place at the Elks Lodge on Saturday July 16 from 2pm till 4pm.
