Mr. Bernard “Bernie” Roland Tibbs, age 96 years, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2017 in his residence at Roseview Manor.

Bernie spent his early years growing up in Emo, Ontario before moving to Thunder Bay, Ontario. He met Ethel in Thunder Bay, and later married in 1949.  He served in the army, returning home after the war.  Bernie and Ethel spent part of their life raising foster children, which let them to adopting children later on. They had two children together; Terry and Roberta.  Bernie opened the Dawson Road Truck Stop and worked there until retirement in 1980, afterwards spending 15 years running Graystone Camp in Savant Lake, Ontario where he met many wonderful people and lifelong friend Richard.  He was a long-time member of the McIntyre Recreation Centre, volunteering many hours with sports teams around Thunder Bay driving to tournaments all over. Bernie was a kind man who was always willing to help anyone in need.

Bernie was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper enjoying most of his time outdoors. He could be found at the trapper’s cabin with his grandkids not too far behind him, on the lake catching walleye, or out hunting moose.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling, and riding his quad. Bernie will be greatly missed by many.

Bernie is survived by his daughter Roberta (Raymond) Petite of Thunder Bay; granddaughters Amanda (Jon) Tibbs of Vermilion Bay, and Kirstie Tibbs of Thunder Bay; grandsons Shane Tibbs of Thunder Bay, James Anderson, Jesse Anderson and Joey Anderson all of Thunder Bay; good friend Brandy Biloski of Thunder Bay, and good friend Richard Carpenter of Tomah, Wisconsin.  He was predeceased by his wife Ethel in 1997, and his son Terry in 2001, as well as his mother, father and siblings.

Funeral Services for Bernie will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Gordon Holroyd.  Visitation for family and friends will be held one our prior to the service time.  Interment to follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  A luncheon will follow the interment in the downstairs reception hall of the Harbourview Funeral Centre.
